About the event

Dr. Sharon Fortney is the Curator of Indigenous Collections and Engagement at the Museum of Vancouver. Sharon has Klahoose (Northern Coast Salish) and German ancestry and chose to work in museums to reconnect with her heritage and to help transform museums into safe spaces for Indigenous community members. At MOV she is a member of the Collections Committee, and the chair of the Repatriation Sub Committee.

Sharon has a BA in Archaeology from the University of Calgary and did her graduate degrees at UBC in the Anthropology Department. Until accepting her position at MOV, she worked as an independent contractor. Some of the institutions she has worked for include: the UBC Museum of Anthropology, the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Glenbow Museum, the Squamish-Lil'wat Cultural Centre, Polygon Gallery, NVMA, and the Burnaby Village Museum.
